Ping & Traceroute
Shared hosting rarely permits raw ICMP sockets, so reachability is measured with TCP connect timing. Traceroute is offered when the host allows it.

Shared hosting does not permit raw ICMP sockets, so latency is measured by timing repeated TCP
connections instead. That includes the TCP handshake, so the figures run slightly higher than
ping would report — the trend and the jitter are what matter.
